OpenBot 0.53.2
Action needed after you upgrade
- On Windows, OpenBot updates again when it was installed in
%USERPROFILE%\OpenBot, the folder that also holds your agent folders. Before, each update stopped with "Failed to uninstall old application files. Please try running the installer again.: 2", also after a restart. The update now installs OpenBot in%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\OpenBotand removes only the app files from the earlier folder. Your agents,SharedandDownloadsstay where they are. A taskbar pin of the earlier copy stops working: pin OpenBot again from the Start menu. The Start menu and desktop shortcuts, the openbot:// links and the open-at-login setting move to the new copy. Do not uninstall OpenBot from Windows Settings to repair this: in that folder, the uninstaller of 0.53.1 or earlier also deletes your agent folders.
New
- Agents now save lasting preferences and facts from your chats and side threads in the background. After every 20 turns, after 15 minutes with no new turn, when you clear a chat and when you close a side thread, the agent's provider reviews the new part of the conversation and adds, updates or forgets memories. The conversation shows the changes. Memories that you wrote or set stay as they are.
- Agents now search their saved memories before they say that they do not know something about you. A search also finds other forms of a word, so "closing" finds "closes".
- A memory review uses the provider's smaller default model when the agent's model costs more, such as Claude Haiku for an agent on Opus or Sonnet.
- Server settings > General > Memory review sets how often the agents on a server review their memories: every 10, 20 or 40 turns, or Off. Off also stops the reviews after a pause, a clear and a closed side thread. An owner or admin can set it for this computer and for a joined, hosted or self-hosted server that runs this release.
Improved
- An agent can now keep 256 memories by default instead of 64, so the background reviews have room for many small facts. Only the essential memories go into each prompt, so this adds no cost. A limit that you set in Server settings > General > Memories per agent stays as it is.
Fixed
- The Windows installer no longer accepts
%USERPROFILE%\OpenBot,%APPDATA%\OpenBot, or a folder that holds one of them, as the install folder. It uses the default folder instead.
